Welcome to the website of concert organist, pianist and teacher Matthias Havinga.
Matthias enjoys a busy international concert career. He recorded many CD's, made countless other recordings and runs a successful Youtube-channel. Havinga is organist of the wonderful organs at the Oude Kerk, Amsterdam.
He is also Professor of Organ at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
Reviews on Matthias' organ playing:
"...playful, sophisticated timing and dangerously quick pedal playing. Havinga masters his profession."
"...pure, true musicianship and an inner feeling for the ‘right’ musical interpretation are expressed in an inimitable way by Matthias Havinga."
2025 starts for Matthias with a prestigious solo concert for French radio, broadcast at the Maison de la Radio et de la Musique in Paris. The program researches the relationship between Mendelssohn's organ works and its Bach examples. It also includes a world premier, composer Kate Moore is writing a new organ piece for this concert.
In passion season, Matthias is playing Haydn's symphony 'La Passione' nr. 49 with the Orchestra of the 18th Century in Den Bosch, Arnhem and Utrecht, followed immediately by a solo organ concert at the Westerkerk Amsterdam as part of the Organ Marathon on April 5.
In April there is also a performance of Mendelssohn's "Lobgesang" by the Netherlands Radio Choir and Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in TivoliVredenburg Utrecht and the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, with Matthias Havinga at the organ.
May 24 brings a Kampen organ tour around several churches as part of the Dudok Muziekdagen, and on the same evening soprano Klaartje van Veldhoven and Matthias will perform their program 'Himmelhoch jauchzend, zum Tode betrübt' in Noordwolde, with music by Buxtehude and Hendrik Andriessen's Miroir de Peine.
